The Gran Turismo car-racing video game series holds a special place in many enthusiasts’ hearts. For a number of us, it was the first taste of feeling what it’s like to sit in the driver’s seat, and pilot a car down the road. Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo, has been racing cars himself since 2009, and this year, he was invited to drive a BMW M6 GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
With hail hammering down on the cars right from the get-go and non-stop crashes, Gran Turismo series producer Yamauchi took part in the 44th Nürburgring 24h race. Yamauchi was behind the wheel of a Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.
With countless crashes and cars skidding off the track, the Nürburgring fully lived up to its nickname as ‘the Green Hell’ in this race. The documentary follows Yamauchi and his team from their preparations for the race right up to the checkered flag and features beautifully-shot footage and interviews with some of the key people who made it happen.
The video team interviews Yamauchi and his fellow teammates, as well as many different engineers responsible for getting the M6 racecar to the finish line. It’s a beautiful piece of work, showcasing exactly how tough the N24 can be on a race team. Video games might teach you the best line, but the only way to truly experience something as unique as an endurance race is to drive in one.
