The BMW M5 Competition Edition celebrates the production life of the F10-generation M5, with just 200 M5 Competition Editions offered for sale worldwide. Both power and torque have been increased, making the Competition Edition one of the most potent cars ever produced by BMW. BMW has confirmed that the vehicle will only be sold in Europe, which makes sense as the automaker just announced a US-only edition.
The peak power output of the M5 now stands at 600hp, while the torque output reaches a maximum of 700Nm, equating to a 0-62mph time of just 3.9 seconds. The BMW M5 Competition Edition uses an even more powerful version of the twin-turbo V8 found in the standard BMW M5. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph. The M5 Competition Edition also benefits from all of the go-fast goodies found in the Competition Package, which include: a re-calibrated differential, special steering calibration, a reprogrammed M chassis control system, and an upgraded and lowered suspension.
The BMW M5 Competition Edition is readily identifiable by the fitment of carbon fiber BMW M Performance Parts and a black kidney grille. The 20-inch alloy wheels are painted Jet Black, and just two exterior colors are available: Mineral White and Carbon Black. Inside, 100 will be black, and the other 100 white. The occupants benefit from Full Black Merino leather upholstery with Opal White contrast stitching, along with further selected details including the unique “1/200” engraving to the interior trim.
However only the most dedicated M Division disciples will spot the M5 Competition Edition is really the M5 30 Jahre by another name. BMW built 300 30 Jahre M5s – all in matt grey – to celebrate three decades of the world’s most iconic fast four-door. Predictably, the 30 Jahre M5 sold out immediately, so it’s back again under the Competition Edition banner.
The BMW M5 Competition Edition is currently available for approximately $142,696 or roughly $42,000 over a M5 with the Competition Package.
