In its almost 20 years of existence, there have only been six entries in the Gran Turismo series. With the Nissan GT Academy program, the Playstation-exclusive Gran Turismo series has been converting videogame players into real life racers for the better part of a decade now. Considering it’s arguably the finest racing game ever created, a new Gran Turismo game is a big deal, and that’s exactly what we’ve got. Gran Turismo Sport, the seventh in the series will be released November 15th this year.
Gran Turismo Sport is the first Gran Turismo game for Playstation 4, and it was produced in partnership with the FIA. While the gorgeous graphics will be immediately familiar to any GT fan, the game seems like it’ll be somewhat of a departure from the numbered series. Something we are a big fan of is being able to get an FIA Gran Turismo Digital License. The license is an accreditation recognised by 25 motorsport clubs around the world.
Details are somewhat slim otherwise, but we have a gameplay trailer to whet our appetites. It very much looks like Gran Turismo is back, and we’re extremely excited. The game is set to feature over 120 “super-premium” cars and more than 20 circuits and dirt tracks. There will be an offline mode with tutorials and races in addition to an arcade mode. Online gaming is now called Sport and features FIA-approved championships, with a real life prize for the best gamer.
Designed as a fully functioning motorsport calendar, Sport Mode offers up sanctioned, FIA events on weekends, full 24-hour races and daily challenges. If you get really good and you’ll end up participating in live-streamed, live-commentated events, culminating in an FIA World Final.
