Hot on the heels of the world premiere for the new Mercedes‑Benz E-Class, its first high-performance variant is on the way from Mercedes-AMG. The E 43 4MATIC with the 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine on board will represent the most powerful variant of the executive saloon when it is introduced in September.
“The new E 43 4MATIC offers impressive driving dynamics coupled with cutting-edge efficiency. Twin turbocharging, features adopted from motorsport and the characteristic AMG design immediately indicate to our customers that the new E‑Class from AMG offers pure Driving Performance coupled with cutting-edge technology and intense emotion,” notes Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
On the E 43 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG has upgraded the six-cylinder engine’s output by 34 hp to 401 hp with the aid of two larger turbochargers. The E43’s power routes through a nine-speed automatic and rear-biased all-wheel-drive system to get the 4,145-pound sedan to 60 miles per hour in a claimed 4.5 seconds. Mercedes electronically limits the top speed to 155 mph.
The E43’s exterior upgrades are perfect for buyers who don’t want other drivers to know what they’re packing underhood, you could even call it a “sleeper”. The E43’s interior also remains subdued thanks to handsome improvements like red accent stitching and sport seats with optional Nappa leather. The only giveaway to show this is something special is the quad-flow exhaust that will hopefully add some AMG sound to the E43’s soundtrack.
