The 2016 Audi R18 has been redesigned from scratch and has almost nothing in common anymore with its predecessor.
The new car from Audi Motorsport features a more radical aerodynamics concept, including a new safety cell, the hybrid drive system is now battery-operated for the first time and the V6 TDI engine has been revised, with new system solutions added. As a result, Audi’s LMP1 sports car is a vehicle that is more powerful and more efficient than any of its predecessors.
One interesting fact is that while the new R18 is Audi’s strongest race car to date, it consumes less fuel than any of the generations before it.
Audi claimed victory in the FIA WEC Six Hours of Spa, following one of the most attrition-filled and unpredictable races in the history of the FIA World Endurance Championship. As a result it certainly looks like it is going to be an Endurance Season to remember!
