Final specifications for the Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe and Convertible have been revealed, and it is not really much of a surprise to find that it is very, very quick. As the first Jaguar to wear the badge of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations, the F-Type SVR gives us a glimpse at how Coventry wants to take on the likes of offerings from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG or BMW’s M division. So far, we like what we see.
The SVR will be fitted with a supercharged 5 liter V8 and achieving 575bhp and 516b ft. The eight-speed ZF automatic, the only transmission available, has been recalibrated for quicker shifts and better launch characteristics, which mean a 0-62 time of 3.7 seconds. The Coupe also becomes a member of the 200mph club with its 200mph top speed while the Convertible will only get to 195mph. The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the fastest production vehicle Jaguar has ever made.
Other highlights include a bigger, more aerodynamically effective front bumper and splitter, a flat underfloor, carbon fiber active rear wing and rear venturi, plus an exhaust made from lightweight titanium and Inconel. Inconel is the same material they make Formula 1 cars’ exhausts out of. So we expect it to sound even more powerful than the standard R.
To keep the car pointed in the right direction, the chassis has a new set of dampers and anti-roll bars, stiffer suspension knuckles, wider tires and lightweight wheels, standard Adaptive Dynamics, Torque Vectoring and stability control. The new 20-inch forged aluminum wheels the car displays are shod in wider Pirelli PZero rubber – 265s in front and 305s in the back, compared to 255/295 on the R model.
Ordering begins today and customer deliveries begin this summer, with prices starting at $125,950 for the SVR Coupe, $128,800 for the convertible.
