The McLaren P1 GTR will offer both an on- and off-track driving experience like no other, providing owners with unique access to the technologies and expertise within the McLaren Technology Centre, and the most powerful track-only model ever produced by McLaren Automotive.
The individually-tailored McLaren P1 GTR driver program will offer each driver a unique insight into the world of McLaren. While also giving customers the best chance to make the most of their hybrid hypercar – which now produces 986bhp (83bhp more than the ordinary P1).
The GTR is being developed exclusively for use on track. To that end, Woking has stripped out the cockpit and installed a multifunction steering wheel derived from the championship-winning MP4-23 grand prix car of Lewis Hamilton. The seats are modeled after a DTM touring car, equipped with six-point harnesses and affixed directly to the chassis.
Moving outside of the cabin, the car has special Pirelli slicks and a fixed rear wing with an F1-style Drag Reduction System.
‘With the McLaren P1™ GTR driver program, we have aimed to do something different, very much like the way we operate the rest of the business. We don’t follow the trends. Our road cars are different to our competitors, so too will be our driving program,’ Chris Goodwin, Chief Test Driver for McLaren Automotive.
Customers of the McLaren in the program will have access to the advanced simulator at the McLaren Technology Centre, as well as the factory’s coaches. The program will also include 10 to 12 track sessions each year, to be held at F1-certified tracks around the world. For each event the customers will have their own garage and crew, all for the benefit of their enjoyment and “optimizing” their lap times and driving skills.
