Infiniti Red Bull Racing provided a very handy guide to the changes that are taking place in Formula One ahead of the start of the 2014 season. The guide also includes a clip featuring Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel who help explain the new changes to the Infiniti Red Bull Racing RB10.

Daniel races to catch up Sebastian in his 2013 World Champion’s car the RB9. As the two race along we see the 2014 regulation changes taking shape and coming to life, as the current World Champion’s car transforms from an RB9 into an RB10.

Changes that we are going to see in the move to new cars in 2014 include:

Racing on qualifying tires

How it worked in 2013: Drivers who made it to Q3 start the race on the tires with which they set their fastest lap in Q3.

Why the change? Teams – particularly the one with Adrian Newey drawing the car – used the flow of exhaust gas to improve downforce. The FIA ruled this out and moved the exhausts. Teams hit back with ‘Coandă-effect’ exhausts which used sculpted bodywork to drag the flow back. The FIA, fed up with teams taking the pi… not entering into the spirit made the exhausts exit down the center of the car, coming out almost at the rear wing – where their effect will be severely curtailed.
