Nissan‘s IDx Nismo Concept that debuted at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show is the latest vehicle to roll into Jay Leno’s Garage. The winner of the prestigious Car Design of the year award winner took center stage in the garage as Jay talked to Giovanny Arroba from Nissan Design America about the IDX Nismo.
The potential spiritual successor to the Datsun 510, the IDx Nismo Concept retains the Datsun’s characteristics of being small, light, and fun to drive. If the concept made it into production, very little would have to be changed to meet safety standards. Nissan have suggested the car would be in the $25,000 to $35,000 range and powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Leno already has love and respect for the classic Datsun 510, and Jay refers to the IDx as the spiritual successor to that car’s ethos, driving fun in an affordable package. Leno suggests we should write to Nissan encouraging them to make the IDx Nismo into a real car and we couldn’t agree more with him.
