The newly established Global Touring Car Series (GTC) have revealed images of their first racecar, a 500 bhp V8-powered Ford Focus Sedan, pictured at Zwartkops Raceway. Global Touring Cars is a rather intriguing series, all the cars in the series will have a 500hp V8 connected to a sequential-shift gearbox fitted to a spaceframe chassis that fits OEM panels. The series has been devised by racer Gary Formato with engineers Vic Maharaj and Mark Woolley providing technical oversight.
We have to say we enjoy the changes to the shape of the Focus, now more brutish with a huge spoiler, low ride height and, side-exit exhausts.
The plan for GTC is to sell national franchises with everything included for a national championship to be run. Mark Woolley has suggested that “inclusiveness” is the key, with the GTC package “offering a one-stop shop of cars, championship backing with regulations, format and contractors all in place for franchise owners”.
With the GTC very much in the early stages at this time, we shouldn’t get our hopes up too high for a series outside of South Africa. But we can say our interest is most certainly piqued and we wish the series all the success for its inaugural season.
