The C7.R was developed alongside the new Z06 as the racing version of the Stingray. The body of the C7.R is 40% stronger than the C6.R because of the newly designed aluminum frame. The engine is carried over from the C6.R and whose displacement of 5.5 liters is limited by racing regulations. The engine features direct injection for the first time which gives the C7.R more precise throttle control and 3% better fuel economy.
Aerodynamic enhancements include a forward-titled radiator, ventilation in the hood and front quarter panels, an aggressive front splitter and a large rear wing. The Corvette racing team, however, has done away with the NACA ducts used on previous versions in favor of ducts in the rear quarter panels to cool the transaxle and differential.
