Mercedes-Benz did something a little different to celebrate the opening of the new Mercedes-Benz Research & Development Center in Sunnyvale, California. They provided a real world example of a car you can only drive in the virtual world of Gran Turismo. Test-drives of the AMG Vision GT begin on the 6th of December when Gran Turismo 6 is released for the Sony Playstation 3.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the franchise, Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi called upon the world’s leading automotive manufacturers to design visionary concepts of their vehicles to be showcased and driven on the virtual racing tracks of Gran Turismo 6. These “Vision Gran Turismo” cars will be gradually introduced and integrated into the new racing game through online updates.
The AMG Vision GT is a 1:1-scale model with no powertrain. In the game, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo is a front engined twin-turbo 577-hp V-8 that produces 590 pound-feet of torque. The engine is wrapped by an aluminum spaceframe with carbon fiber components. It weighs in at 3,053 pounds with a weight distribution of 46 percent at the front and 54 percent in the rear.
