The Legends of the Autobahn is a yearly event held at the Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel Valley, California and is now in its 4th year. The event hosted by the BMW Car Club of America, the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, the Porsche Club of America and the Audi Club of North America.
The 2013 Legends of the Autobahn featured a display from Audi that included the legendary R-8 WSC race car, which won the 2005 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race. Porsche celebrated 50 years of the 911, with a display of classic 911s that included the Paris-Dakar 1984 Porsche 953 911. Mercedes-Benz presented a display of the Pagoda and 600 models, while BMW covered Alpinas to round off the 4 displays.
The all-German marque Concours saw several hundred Audi, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz entrants on the show field, making it one of the larger events of Monterey Classic Car Week. Participants of the Concours are requested to drive their cars to the show which adds to the appeal.
Best of Show at the 2013 Legends of the Autobahn was awarded to the 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL owned by Gary Jarvis. The best Porsche was awarded to Bob Schoenherr’s 1971 Porsche 914/4. The top Audi was the 1986 Audi Sport Quattro owned by Dean Treadway. Best in show BMW was awarded to Bob Newman and his 1985 BMW M635 CSI. The People’s Choice award went to Timothy Hensley’s 1967 Porsche 911S that was hand painted by Phyllis Yes in 1985.
