One of the most extensive and lavish car collections in the country is housed in San Francisco. The Academy of Art University Automobile Museum has well over 100 classic cars on display. The collection is primarily used for student reference in the School of Industrial Design.
The cars are meant to encourage and inspire future car designers by connecting them to the automotive past. With access to the museum, students can study and apply that sense of craftsmanship to their own work. The Academy of Art University’s Automotive Collection includes more than 165 cars. “Our family has a passion for vintage cars and we love to share our enthusiasm for this era and these cars with the public,” says Academy of Art University President Elisa Stephens. The cars were collected by Richard A. Stephens, son of the late Richard S. Stevens, who founded the University in 1929 and served as its president until 1951.
