The British Grand Prix is just around the corner and ahead of the race, Lewis Hamilton met up with Sir Stirling Moss and at Silverstone to share anecdotes and compare their Formula One experiences as Silver Arrow drivers from two very different eras.
The Mercedes-Benz W196 driven by Sir Stirling Moss was the Mercedes-Benz Formula One entry in the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons. The car won 9 of the 12 races entered at the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss.
In this video from the BBC and Mercedes AMG Petronas, we get to see Lewis Hamilton and Sir Stirling Moss compare notes about their respective cars and see just how far the sport has come since the 1950s. The discussion about the sport and the art of racing is a lot of fun to watch. There are a lot of great moments, for example when Sir Stirling Moss pops the hood of his car and shows off the straight-eight engine capable of 170mph, saying “Look at that for an engine, boy.”
However the best part is when Hamilton explains the ignition sequence of the paddle shifters to which Sir Stirling Moss says “all I did was check the instruments and shoot a dirty look to the driver next to me.”
