The Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) kicked off its 46th season at Sonoma Raceway last weekend.
Vintage car racing took center stage with over 150 vintage race cars in action on the the road course over the weekend. This includes vintage Formula 1, prototype sports cars and production cars from the 1950’s, 60s and 70s, as well as select sports racing cars from the 1930s. The eight race groups will consist of many well-known marques including Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Corvette and Jaguar.
In addition, Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year winner, Lyn St. James, and Formula Atlantic Champion, Dan Marvin, will be among the contestants. Lyn is just one of seven women who have qualified for the Indianapolis 500, and became the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award. Lyn also has two victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona, 1 win at the 12 Hours of Sebring, and she has competed twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
CSRG returns to Sonoma Raceway later in the year on October 5th and 6th, for the CSRG Charity Challenge. CSRG has contributed more than $500,000 to Sonoma County youth organizations through Speedway Children’s Charities since 2002.
