Bay Area IndyCar fans needed their earplugs at the Sonoma Raceway today for a sneak peak at an Indy Car test session with a selection of some of the top drivers.
Several teams from the Izod IndyCar Series took part in the one-day test session at the raceway to get ready for this summer and the upcoming GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, later this year (August 23-25). Some well-known drivers who participated included Sausalito native JR Hildebrand from Panther Racing and Simona de Silvestro from the KV Racing Technology team. Other teams who took part in the session included Panther Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (Oriol Servia) and Dragon Racing (Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Saavedra). Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (Simon Pagenaud and Tristan Vautier) and Ed Carpenter Racing (Ed Carpenter).
The nine drivers utilized the altered track configuration employed during last year’s race which saw alterations to the Turn 7 and Turn 11 hairpins.
Race fans were invited to view the testing, which included cars on the track, an open paddock, and to attend a driver press conference.
