Last weekend Shawn headed down to Larz Anderson for the annual German Car Day.
If you are a fan of German cars then the Larz Anderson Auto Museum was the place to be this weekend. German Car Day, the first museum sponsored lawn event of the season, saw bright, blue skies, warm weather and a record breaking number of show cars.
Well represented marques included BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Porsche. Spectators were treated to a full spectrum of the history of German automotives. Everywhere you looked your senses were inundated with reminders of just how rich that history is. From the classic, timelessness of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing to the sleek, aerodynamic lines of the Audi R8, German Car Day had something for everyone.
Around mid-morning Larz Anderson announced that this year’s German Car Day was officially their largest lawn event in terms of the number of show cars. So many cars showed up that they had to close the usual entrance they use for show cars because there was no more room to park them on the lawn. What started out as nice, orderly rows of cars, organized by make and model, turned into a jumbled mixture of all things great and German. Vintage Volkswagen Beetles got mixed in with Porsche 911s, while M-Powered BMWs coexisted beautifully alongside S-Powered Audis and AMG-powered Mercedes-Benzes.
The lawn events at Larz Anderson never disappoint and as they continue to grow in size and popularity they only get better and better. Up next for the Larz Anderson Auto Museum is British Car Day on June 24. And if British Car Day is only half as good as German Car Day then it will be a must see event.
