In this post I would like to welcome our newest contributor Shawn Pierce. Who is a great photographer, you don’t have to take my word for it you can see his splendid work and even “Like” his page on Facebook. Last weekend I sent Shawn off to buy some earplugs and head to New England Dragway for their annual North East Classic, apart from thanking me for the advice on the ear plugs this is what he had to say for himself.
Is there any better way to spend a late spring day than alongside a quarter mile? That is exactly how I got to spend the Sunday before Memorial Day as New England Dragway hosted their 9th Annual Northeast Nostalgia Classic. With a full paddock of cars spread out over seven classes the Northeast Nostalgia Classic did not disappoint.
The event was focused on the action on the track as the steady flow of burnouts and timed runs filled the air with tire smoke and the angry roar of race engines at full tilt. And although the racing was easily the main draw of the event; spectators were also treated to a muscle car and hot rod show of impressive size. The car show included everything from a beautiful Factory Five 33 Roadster to the modern muscle of a 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T. I also caught a couple of bona fide “rat rods” which nearly stole the show in their matte black and rusted glory.
There were many impressive runs throughout the day. Many in the low 10s and 11s and even some in the 9s, but the run of the day belonged to Bob Schneider in “The Sizzler” alcohol burning rail dragster which blistered the track with a time of 7.183 seconds at 190.48 mph on his way to securing the 7.50 Index win.
