Summer Jam, is Infineon Raceway’s first foray into local weekend drifting, the event comprised of two days of drift action and a car show on the Sunday. The event was sponsored by NOS Energy who graciously provided enough NOS to keep the event pumping through the whole weekend. On Saturday, Aug. 13, the Solo exhibitions and the Team Tandem main event took center stage. The action got much hotter on Sunday with qualifying and the main event for Tandem. The winner from the Tandem competition will be awarded $1,000. Julian Jacobs finished in first place followed by John Corvinus and Jason Bastrom taking out third place.
The weekend will also feature a Summer Car Show, with more than 100 machines on display. The racing took place between turns 2-4 of the road course, a little different from the familiar Sonoma Drift course which we see behind the main stand on Wednesday nights. The drivers are judged on execution and style rather than who finishes the course fastest.
Formula DRIFT racers Matt Field and Ryan Kado are scheduled to attend the event as guests (they will not be racing). Field, a San Jose resident, is currently ranked 19th in Formula DRIFT in his Nissan 240 sx. Kado, from Sacramento, is the youngest competitor in Formula DRIFT at 19 years old and earned his license by being the first driver to win two Pro-Am Championships.
Also, make sure to check out Sonoma Drift, powered by NOS Energy Drink, which runs most Wednesday nights through to November 16th at Infineon Raceway. For more information on this program, visit Sonoma Drift.
